The information comes from the guys on the server of J-Novel Club, which is a publisher of light novels in the US, from Reddit and 4chan. Make a few things clear soon: there is still no pretty summary of what happened in the last volume, what we have so far is an angry crowd going to complain on the author's twitter, and information thrown by people who read the last volume.

I don't know if it helps, but I want to really strongly believe with all my existence that the "first" ending is what he gets both. TLDR : The Author developed Emi X Maou for like 13 chapters and suddenly back pedals to Chiho and even that felt like a forced attempt to make the readers empathize which resulted in the major backlash he faced in his social media (death threats are stupid and unjustified, however i understand the frustration and negative comments towards the author.) I loved the story and its characters, but the way they were handled by the author in the final LNs made little to no sense at all. The Author spent so much time on developing one character's relationship to the MC (maou in this case) and it went all in the drain in lack of a better phrase. That is the part that upsets a lot of fans. I would have no qualms about Chiho winning if the Author developed Chiho instead of Emilia or if she had half to equal the development emilia had with maou.
This is why it made little to no sense to me when i saw that Emilia actually lost. I've bought and read en mass the LNs and for the bulk of it, the author was developing the relationship between Maou and Emilia, among the various plot points and character interactions/developments.
